I trust you’re all entering the new year and decade with great hopes and dreams for the future and if not, I hope this bog will spark a light to your dreams.
So, I have been spending time editing some poems that I’ve been writing over the years, which I hope to publish soon. With some poems it’s a done deal within minutes, while others, I find myself editing and re-editing and there just comes a time when you have to make your last edit the final draft!
Most of my poems are written from personal experience, particular at crucial periods in my Christian walk, where I’ve found myself in spiritual battles that require faith, patience and shift in my prospective of the Character of God the Father, whom I desperately wanted to connect with.
It’s quite interesting reading some of the early poems that I wrote over a decade ago. Then I did not have the courage to publish them as I felt they were too personal and the emotions a bit raw, but I remember sharing one of my poems at a Christian writers day, to a lady sat next to me and as she read it she was in tears. I could see that she deeply connected with it.
My hope is that they will be a source of encouragement to someone who may feel alone in their struggle.
I have also been thinking about long term plans and seeking God in that area.
In Joel 2:28 it reads;
“And it shall come to pass afterward
That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
I really sense that we are in the last days, but not sure where on the spectrum. We’re at a place in history where we’ve never been so advanced due to all the things we can do with technology, and global connection with friends and family, near and far, is in an instant with social media.
We’ve seen young people with great visions, that lead the way we socialise and connect. Mark Zukerberg was twenty when he launched Facebook, along with his four room mates, in their dormitory. Perhaps not all of us will become millionaires, but we can aspire to have great dreams that move us towards the right direction.
To some, these dreams will come naturally and others will have to seek for it, like seeking for lost treasures, some will have to up-skill or make career changes. Most important of all, is to seek the dream giver.
God has a vision for the world He created, he planted the seeds of
vision in His creation and he also has a vision for you.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
There’s an invitation to seek God for those dreams, in Jeremiah 33 it says:
‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV)
Ask Him what vision He has for your life and how it fits in with His creation.
As you give yourself permission to dream big, you might find that He begins to stir up your lost dreams till it floats to the surface of your mind. You may find yourself having an idea that solves complex problems or a pharmaceutical drug that provides a solution to terminal illnesses or another genius tech idea that revolutionises this decade.
When you connect with your God given dreams and remove mind barriers, only the sky is your limit!
David in 1 Samuel 17, had a vision of conquering giants. He did not share the fears that served as a barrier, preventing the Israelites from taking on Goliath; he just went for him with what he had in his hands. Tools he had mastered in practice over and over again, in the fields, until he was very confident that his perfected skill would take down the Goliath of his age. David also had a close connection with God, in such a way that made his dreams congruent with that which God had for him, and his legacy goes beyond the bounds of this earth, its eternal!
